It's no longer akin to a virus itself anymore... Were it me, I'd probably run it for a couple weeks without activating anyway to be sure it was going to be suitable for my needs. It depends on the SSD's controller chip. I don't know why 7 broke compatibility with my laptop... Simply installing and modifying a chipset driver shouldn’t allow additional SATA operations, you would need a BIOS update to change these. My first hurdle was a freaky keyboard, but win update (eventually) took care of that.

First time around I accidentally did a manual install of the WindowsXP version of the drivers recommended on the dell site and my computer did not boot properly such that I I stop using Norton bloatware/malware several years ago when I discovered that the only way to remove Norton bloatware/malware from your computer is to use a utility to clean the hard Way less painful than the Windows 7 hack and very fast. in December a critical update screw up my keyboard and i ended up having to replace it because even after finding the embedded registry driver it still wouldnt work.
All of this was such a pain in the neck.
