There is a temporary or permanent problem with the debian/watch file included in the package. https://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary Even install fglrx or Crimson from amd website will not work. & Ubuntu 16.04 is based from Stretch/Sid. When I try to install fglrx-driver now, aptitude returns something about xorg-video-abi-18, a package which should be provided by the X server itself as stated here. Research is to be continued.

please refer the Discussion for details.... Installation The open-source ati/radeon driver should already be installed and used as the default. or that's only affect on Ubuntu 16.04 based? If you have an older card, you will be forced to use the FOSS radeon driver in place of FGLRX for as long as you use Xorg 1.18 or newer.
